State of Play Report

Rising climate risks threaten Canada’s infrastructure — these significant reports created by the IBWG identify where we should prioritize early action to protect communities and a call to action for lead actors involved.

As Canada’s climate continues to shift, the buildings, roads, and infrastructure we rely on face growing risks from extreme weather, rising temperatures, and heavier rainfall. Without action, the cost of damage and disruption will only increase. But with timely, targeted investments in adaptation today, we can protect communities, reduce long-term costs, and build infrastructure that is ready for the challenges of tomorrow.

The IBWG State of Play Reports (2017; 2023) are signature achievements of the working group. They provide an overview of the state of adaptation in Canada and the activities underway in the infrastructure and building sectors and identifies gaps, opportunities and possible solutions for addressing them. In addition, they include a clear, evidence-based roadmap to help governments, professionals, and organizations strengthen Canada’s infrastructure resilience, turning growing risks into opportunities for more innovative and sustainable development.
